Brighton College Vietnam introduces The Student Voice

Empowering and safeguarding pupils

The Student Voice is proud to announce a new partnership with Brighton College Vietnam in Hanoi. This term, the school has introduced The Student Voice platform, giving pupils a trusted and structured platform to share their experiences, concerns, and ideas. Brighton College Vietnam will be implementing our model under the leadership of its Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who brings extensive experience after successfully delivering the programme at Dauntsey’s School in the UK for the past three years. We’re excited to support the school as it strengthens its commitment to pupil wellbeing, safeguarding and student-led communication.

The Student Voice, a child‑friendly, interactive system designed not merely to record incidents, but to explore the contexts in which pupils live, learn and socialise. The platform enables pupils to confidentially map experiences of harm, whether at school, online, at home, or in the broader community, and rate how safe they feel across those contexts, using a simple traffic‑light (Red / Amber / Green) system. The platform also incorporates educational aspects on discrimination and the UN rights of a child, where pupils can explore and learn about their rights, share their thoughts, raise concerns, and ask for support in a safe and respectful environment.

This supports school staff to:

  • Identify “hotspots” of concern early (places where pupils feel unsafe)
  • Recognise patterns of risk, whether inside or outside school
  • Intervene earlier, more precisely, and in consultation with pupils
  • Foster authentic pupil voice and trust, particularly for those who may be less comfortable speaking directly with adults

Brighton College Vietnam’s Implementation

Brighton College Vietnam’s Designated Safeguarding Lead comes to this role with hands‑on experience: for three years at Dauntsey’s School in the UK, Ann managed the introduction, monitoring and refinement of The Student Voice model, achieving strong engagement, improved safety reporting, and enhanced pastoral interventions.

The roll out:

  • The model is being rolled out to all secondary pupils over the 2025-26 academic year, supported by staff training and orientations.
  • Pupils will have access to the reporting tool via the school; confidentiality and anonymity will be upheld where requested, with clear protocols for follow‑up.
  • The school will incorporate feedback loops so that pupils not only report, but see outcomes and improvements based on their input.
  • Regular assessments will allow the leadership team to track safety perceptions, respond to trends or concerns, and adjust policy or environment accordingly.

Why This Matters

Listening to our pupils is not only about responding to incidents, it’s about creating a school environment where every child feels safe, heard, and supported. At Dauntsey’s, we saw how Student Voice moved beyond reactive safeguarding; it enabled us to pre‑empt issues, to understand the lived experience of pupils in all contexts, and to build stronger relationships of trust.” says Ann Jackson, Designated Safeguarding Lead at Brighton College Vietnam.

Brighton College Vietnam remains committed to the highest safeguarding standards. This model aligns with internationally recognised best practice, including the principle of seeking the voice of the child in all safeguarding work, and ensures the College is proactive, not just compliant.
